Hannah GroverI have always been enamored by the incredible ways in which our bodies work- how we create and sustain life; so when I first learned about what doulas do, I was captivated. Birth is significant. And for too many, the memories of their birth experiences are tainted by a lack of empathy in the care they received or a lack of autonomy in the decisions that were made. The idea of a profession which works explicitly in supporting child-bearing people through this most meaningful time called to me, as I have found myself to be a nurturing presence for many in my life as well as a natural-born advocate. Helping people to find empowerment within themselves in order to protect the memory of their births is a task which I feel I was built for.
As a new doula, currently working on my certification through DONA International, I work to provide compassionate care with the aim to give a sense of comfort and support for you both mentally and physically, while equipping you with the information and resources that you need to make the best decisions for your family. Everyone deserves to have birth experiences that affirm their strength and autonomy, free of unnecessary fear and suffering- and that is exactly what I strive for in my work as a doula. I am especially passionate about providing accessible and inclusive care which respects and takes into mind the differing needs of any and all child-bearing people and their families by using gender-inclusive language and avoiding cis- and hetero-normativity in the ways which I talk about and perform birthwork. I feel privileged to be able to make these most impactful experiences as positive and safe as possible and honored to bear witness to these intimate moments of strength and vulnerability for people of all different backgrounds and identities. I am so happy to be doing this work with the support of a wonderful partner and family. Having moved to Pittsburgh two years ago, we have truly come to love our adopted home. With a bachelor’s degree in Media Arts from Antioch College, I enjoy many creative hobbies as well as cooking, hanging out with our two furriest family members, and constantly working on turning our tiny backyard in Lawrenceville into a garden oasis. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, as I look forward to getting to know you. |
