Katy HaynesHi! I'm Katy, and I'm a birth doula. I provide continuous emotional and physical support to birthing people and their families during labor, birth, and immediately postpartum. Additionally, I offer information and resources during pregnancy and up to six weeks postpartum. This support can include texts or emails when you have questions, holding space and taking notes during prenatal meetings as you consider and choose your birth preferences, and providing reliable resources for more information or support when needed.
Knowledge and choice are fundamental to how I approach birth work. I am a neuroscience researcher at Pitt by day, and one unique skill that I bring from my day job is the ability to clearly explain scientific information in a way that is accessible and meaningful for each individual. I believe that being well-informed is empowering, and feeling empowered enables you to make confident choices for yourself and your baby, fostering a positive birth experience. I grew up in southeast Alabama and lived in North Carolina during my graduate studies. In 2015, my husband, Mark, and I moved to Pittsburgh, and we finally settled into our home in Swissvale in 2021. We have two wild kids, Dean and Henry, and two very tolerant cats named Bonk and Sadie. We enjoy taking neighborhood walks and grilling out in our front yard. In my spare time, I love listening to audiobooks and podcasts. I look forward to getting to know you, supporting you on your birth journey, and helping you feel confident and empowered every step of the way. |
